Bonaventure of Bagnoregio (1221–1274), Franciscan, regent master at Paris alongside Aquinas, minister general of his order and cardinal-bishop of Albano. Called the Seraphic Doctor, he set the Franciscan affective tradition on a scholastic footing: the mind ascends to God through the traces of God in creation, and arrives by love rather than by argument.
