Anthony Burgess (d. 1664), fellow of Emmanuel College and vicar of Sutton Coldfield, sat in the Westminster Assembly and preached to it. He wrote at length and against everybody — Antinomians, Arminians, Socinians, Papists — but always to a pastoral end, and his hundred and twenty sermons on assurance are the fullest thing the Puritans left on how a man may know he is in a state of grace. He was ejected in 1662.
