This then shall be the order of procedure in this work: I shall speak first of “true religion,” then of “false,” not in E separate and distinet books, but in distinct sections.
[2]. BerweeN Whom Religion Subsists
Now, since religion involves two factors, one that towards which religion reaches out, and one that which by means of religion reaches out towards the other, our next task must be to speak of each of these. That is, since it is God towards whom religion reaches out and man who by means of religion reaches out toward Him, religion cannot be duly treated of without first of all discerning God and knowing man.
